The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD), was founded in 1972 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022 with a year-long community celebration called "From 50 to Forever". The celebration highlighted Midpen's legacy of preserving 65,000 acres and 240 miles of trails over its 50-year history, emphasizing the crucial ecosystem benefits and community resilience provided by these open spaces.
